It might not look like central London - but it is. This is one of the many photoshoots I’ve carried out for Historics Auctioneers, with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working for quite some time. The shoot included exterior, interior, and detail photography to present the car at its very best, while also conveying a certain atmosphere.

Of course, there are often limitations: traffic, location, season, weather, and light. When the most favourable conditions align, the results are always rewarding. The best outcome for this type of automotive photoshoot is usually achieved during the golden hour, when the light is softer and less direct, avoiding harsh shadows. In summer, this typically means shooting after 6pm.

A standard session lasts around an hour, which is usually enough to gather a strong set of images for use on the auction house’s website or in the printed catalogue available on the day of the sale.

The objective is always to showcase the car at its finest, because a strong presentation significantly increases the likelihood of success. After all, if presentation didn’t matter, Gucci would shoot its campaigns on a mobile phone with the CEO behind the lens — rather than investing hundreds of thousands of pounds in the best professionals in the field.
